Some Thoughts on Community

I've had the pleasure of attending local spinning events in the Spokane area for the last couple of years.  Every time I leave one of these events, I feel injected with a dose of creativity and a sense of community.  Sharing that excitement is one of the reasons why I host the South Spokane Fiber Fest.

For those of us living in the Inland Northwest, we are privileged to partake in both a strong and vibrant local fiber arts community and in a really great fiber community the covers the Pacific Northwest.  So the question then becomes: Are there folks who are not part of our community?  How do we create ways for folks to engage in our community?  We owe it to our community to work towards answers to these questions.

I think there is always room for more in our fiber arts community, and I think the first step is to let people know what events are going on around them so they can be a part of the community at large in what ever capacity is comfortable to them.

That is why I'm adding a Local Events tab to this blog.  For our community to continue to grow and offer space for more members we need to have a location where folks can go to get information on local events.  If you have an event that appeals to the fiber arts community please email me at jtiegs@q.com and I'll get it added to the Local Events tab.  If you are just curious and want to know the who, what, when and where please bookmark this page and I'll do my best to keep everyone informed.

Our community is diverse, the events on the Local Events tab are not limited to just spinners or just guild activities.  Many events offer something for everyone.  Whether you knit, crochet, needle felt, weave or partake in the many different fiber arts crafts, these events are worth checking out.
