Wool Prep for Spinning from the Lock $15.00  Instructor: Susan McKee-Nugent
Join Susan as she offers a hands-on approach to fleece preparation. With over 37 years of spinning experience, Susan has devised a quick and easy way to wash fleece so you can get on with the spinning! This class is well suited for those looking to begin fleece prep and for those who have some experience under their belt. Class size is limited to 10 student. Preregistration is required to secure a spot in class.

All About Spinning Alpaca $30.00 (+ $10.00 material fee)  Instructor: Taryn Winegardner
Get ready to learn about everything alpaca, from fleece to finished product. This whirlwind class will cover properties and characteristics of alpaca fiber (both Suri and Huacaya), fleece selection, how to sort, wash, and prepare alpaca fiber for spinning, and when to choose certain preparation methods. We’ll also discuss dyeing and blending before diving into spinning techniques to create both traditional and textured yarns, and use of alpaca yarns in various fiber arts such as knitting and weaving.

Taryn has been addicted to alpaca fiber since she first laid hands on it in the markets of Peru over a decade ago, and can't wait to help you learn how to make the most of this luxurious fiber in your projects. She currently has a herd of 9 Huacaya and Suri alpacas and has concluded that work and grad school take way too much time away from knitting and spinning, but somebody's got to buy the hay at Fiber Haven! Class size is limited to 15 students. Preregistration required to secure a spot in class.

All Things Angora        $ Free information session  Instructor: Anne Ott (Irish Rose Rabbitry)
Have you ever wanted to try Angora for your fiber arts, or perhaps have an Angora rabbit as a fiber pet? Here’s your chance to learn the “ins and outs” of Angora rabbits and their fiber – come prepared to learn about the different Angora rabbit breeds, their fiber characteristics, and how to use Angora fiber in your fiber arts (blending, spinning, felting).

Anne Ott of Irish Rose Rabbitry has bred and shown Satin, English, French, and Giant Angoras, winning the ARBA National Convention Best of Breed Satin Angora in 2009, the 2011 NARBC Satin Angora Open Sweepstakes; and is the 2012 NARBC #2 Open Satin Angora Sweepstakes winner and #1 in Satin Angora Open Wool Sweepstakes. Anne is a retired Army officer who is a spinner and fiber artist, running her online Etsy store “tinasangoras” with her husband, selling handmade wooden spinning tools and Angora fiber.  Open to all, no preregistration required.

Russian Join        $ Free demo            Instructor: Judy Browning
Are you looking for a secure and stable way to join yarn in your knitting project? Judy is here to demonstrate the Russian Join. With a tapestry needle and a little bit of practice, Judy will have you creating seamless joins in no time! (Please bring lengths of plied yarn and a tapestry needle to practice with.) Open to all, no preregistration required.

All classes will be offered at the Fairfield Library meeting room (directly across the street from the Community Center).

All classes are available on a first come first served basis. Once the class limit has been reached, students will be placed on a waiting list. Class availability will be posted for those interested in dropping in the day of the event.

Payment for classes is due at the door via cash or check. Participants who have reserved but not checked in by the scheduled class start time forfeit their class space to a student on the waiting list.

Please come to class with the recommended materials. Material lists will be sent to preregistered students prior to the class. Spouses and children are not allowed in the classroom without preregistration and paying the full class fee.
